Marilyn Humphries Invites You to Find Out More

Marilyn Humphries, B.Ed., B.Sc., Dip.Ed., Cert IV in TAE, Cert III in IT, is the principal and founder of "You and Me Tutoring" which delivers private tutoring services offering Maths and English help to school students. With more than twenty-two years of full-time teaching experience in public and private schools and in distance education, Marilyn has full registration status with the Queensland College of Teachers - registration number is 807052 - and has a Positive Exemption card under the blue card system. Her husband, Warwick, also has a Blue Card. While a young university student, Marilyn began private home tutoring in Mathematics and realised the importance of forming positive relationships and building trust before progress could be made.

Upon graduating from the University of Newcastle with a Bachelor of Science degree and a Diploma of Education, Marilyn began her career as a teacher of Mathematics at Newcastle Girls' High School before transferring to Huonville High School in Tasmania. After taking time out to be a full-time mum, Marilyn returned to study, gained her Bachelor of Education (Primary), and taught primary classes at Launceston Christian School and Community Christian Academy in Tasmania.

Seeking a new challenge and a warmer climate, Marilyn moved to Maryborough, Queensland, along with her husband and youngest child, to accept a position as an Area Teacher (Prep-Yr12) in distance education at Riverside Christian College.  To expand the range of subjects offered to senior students, Marilyn produced a Maths B work program, approved by the Queensland Studies Authority, for the College.

In a similar position at Groves Christian College, Marilyn wrote manuals for delivery of Maths B for Distance Education and facilitated the course online for the first few years. She studied and obtained her nationally accredited Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and Certificate III in Information Technology to enable her to deliver and assess the Certificate II in IT course which was delivered online for senior Distance Education students.

From 2008 - 2015 Marilyn occupied Coordinator positions with special responsibility for Senior Students, then IT and finally the new Middle Phase (Yrs 7-9) in 2014 and 2015. In the final two years, Marilyn led her team through many organisational changes while concurrently writing and assessing units of English using the current Australian Curriculum content descriptors and guidelines.

While planning some Long Service Leave, taken in late 2015, Marilyn decided to set up a tutoring centre at home and start her own private tutoring business.  With qualifications in both primary and secondary teaching, she is able to provide Maths tutoring and English tutoring services. So on 1st September, 2015, the business was registered and "You and Me Tutoring" was born.
